Last month I received a very nice, but at the same time terrifying, phone call from my son’s school. Apparently, every year they choose on child to send to summer camp for a week, all expenses paid. This year, my son was chosen as the lucky winner, based on his good behavior and academic achievement. It was a very nice compliment to my son, but the terrifying part is the fact that the camp is located more than 100 miles away.

I know I’m just being an overprotective parent here, but the reality is that my son has never been away from home for more than one night before, so I’m a bit worried about how he’ll handle things. I still have to talk things over with him, and at the very least, I’m going to have to start shopping around for prepaid wireless plans to handle all the phone calls I’m sure he’ll make.

My son carries a cell phone for emergencies, but the budget plan we’re on now doesn’t have any provisions for long-distance service. So I’m definitely going to have to check around on the Internet to see what kind of prepaid wireless plans are available these days. I’m interested in finding ones that will work with the cell phone my son currently has, and I want to see how much I’ll be expected to pay. That way I can start saving up to buy one of these prepaid wireless plans before my son goes off to camp.

I was amazed at all the different options, features, and benefits that are available on most prepaid wireless plans.  There are plenty of short-term contracts that provide users with a limited number of hours for a reasonable price, which is precisely what I need. My son is only going to be gone for a week, so it wouldn’t make sense for me to even look at prepaid wireless plans that offer more than, say, 100 minutes. From what I’ve seen thus far, I think I’ll be able to get something like this at a price that fits my budget.

Although I’m still very apprehensive about my boy being so far away from home for so long, I can take comfort in the fact that he’ll be able to call me anytime he wants. Once I sort through all of the cheap prepaid wireless plans that I’ve found and buy the best one, I’m sure I’ll feel a little better about the whole situation!
